The U18 Schools Cup regional finals begin this week, the final round of the competition at the regional stage.

Following this round we will have a winner for each of the eight regions in the U18 Schools Cup and those eight winners will then be thrown in a hat together for the national quarter final draw, which is the last round before teams start heading to stadia, Allianz Park for the semi finals and Twickenham Stadium for the final.

QEGS Wakefield v Wirral GS (Wednesday)

It’s a massive clash in North A as Schools Cup legends QEGS Wakefield take on Wirral Grammar School. Wirral Grammar are enjoying a strong season, impressing in this Cup competition in particular. QEGS are coming off the back of a defeat to Bradford Grammar on Saturday, but will doubtless be determined to bounce back at home on Wednesday.

St Peter’s, York 26-27 Woodhouse Grove

Round 4

RGS Newcastle v Woodhouse Grove (Wednesday)

A massive game in North B as Cup legends RGS Newcastle host former Plate champions Woodhouse Grove. Both came through excruciatingly tight games in the last round, but that should prepare them for what should be another epic on Wednesday. Form this year suggests that two as the pair met back in October, RGS winning by just two points. Whichever side wins though, they ought to believe that they can go far.

Solihull 9-19 Warwick

Round 3

Lymm HS 0-13 Bromsgrove

Mount St Mary’s 10-13 Warwick

Round 4

Bromsgrove v Warwick (Wednesday)

Surely the tie of the round as two recent champions go head to head, Bromsgrove (2015 and 2016) hosting Warwick (2017 and 2018). Bromsgrove have probably enjoyed the smoother passage so far, and the two actually met in the regular season back in September, Bromsgrove winning 27-12. This is the Cup though, anything can happen, and you can be certain that Warwick will be desperate to get one back after that September result.

Northampton School for Boys v Felsted (Thursday)

Midlands B keeps us waiting until Thursday when Northampton School for Boys host Felsted. This should be a really exciting game, the last few years have seen these two sides grow and grow, NSB have reached a Schools Cup final, Felsted a semi final, and both have numerous players in the professional ranks. It promises to be a cracking game of rugby, one that looks to be right in the balance.

Round 3

Sir Thomas Rich’s 10-44 Sherborne

Taunton 48-7 Ivybridge Community College

Round 4

Sherborne v Taunton (Thursday)

South West A will take place on Thursday and should be a good game, both of the semi finals took place a week late on back to back days last week. Sherborne came through outstandingly well against Sir Thomas Rich’s, 44-10, while Taunton were sublime against Ivybridge, winning 48-7. Form over the season suggests an advantage for Sherborne, who really have been brilliant. However Taunton’s performance in that last round suggests that they have perhaps been underestimated, this will be one to watch.
