Undoubtedly many of our readers will have already read the terrible news about Leicester Tigers flanker Taylor Gough.

The 20-year-old openside suffered multiple injuries including severe spinal injuries after being injured in a road traffic accident in mid-June, leaving him unable to walk and highly unlikely to do so again according to an interview with his mother, Kerry, in an interview with BBC Radio Leicester.

Gough, a key player in Leicester Tigers’ U18 Academy League title in 2018, the first of three in a row, only signed his first senior contract in February when he stepped up from the Academy to the first team and had made one appearance for the first team – this season and next were set to be his breakthrough.

He is in intensive care at Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham and the Matt Hampson Foundation has set up a Just Giving page to help support the former Wyggeston & Queen Elizabeth I College pupil’s recovery and rehabilitation.
