Scotland have named their U19 Development side to play Scottish Students on Sunday.

The game will take place at Inverleith in Edinburgh, kicking off at 1.30pm, and serves as an opportunity for some younger players to push for a place in the U20 squad for the World Rugby U20 Championship in Georgia this June.

The squad includes five Scottish Exiles, perhaps the most high profile being KCS Wimbledon’s Jake Hennessey, who recently captained Harlequins to victory in the U18 Academy League Final, beating Sale Sharks.

He starts at outside centre, with another Exile, Preston Grasshoppers’ Will Hunt, partnering him. Cardiff Met’s Jack Samuel is at hooker, with Northumbria University’s Jamie Ross on the bench alongside Sedbergh School’s Bradley Clements.

The squad kick off their campaign with Sunday’s game against Scottish Students, before a game against Scotland U18 next month, with the U18s preparing for the U18 5 Nations in April.

Speaking to Scottish Rugby ahead of the game, Scotland U19 Head Coach Don Caskie said:

“These two fixtures are very important for the development of this group of players. They will not only gain valuable game time experience at this level, which is critical, but it is also a chance for them to push for places in the Scotland U20 squad for the World Rugby U20 Championship later this year and also for next year’s U20 Six Nations.”

Scottish Students Head Coach, David Ross, added:

“It is extremely pleasing to get the Scottish Students XV back up and running to reward the hard working and talented players in the student game in Scotland. We have selected a squad who we are confident will showcase the very best of the student game and would like to thank Scottish Rugby for the opportunity to play such an important fixture in their National Age Grade programme against Scotland U19.”
