Scotland U18 have named their squad to take on England at Billingham RUFC on Sunday, kicking off at 2pm.
Head Coach Ross Miller has selected a 26-man squad for the game following a 57-7 victory over an U18 Club Select XV last weekend.
A number of players based in England are in the squad and will be facing their school and clubmates on Sunday afternoon.
In the forward pack Rhys Tait, a try scorer last week, is selected and will be up against Sedbergh schoolmate Tom Curtis, who starts at fly half for England. Also in the pack is Rugby School’s Ben Muncaster, whose Leicester Tigers U18 teammate George Martin is the England captain.
In the backs Saracens’ Cameron Furley is picked, oddly there are no Saracens’ players in the England side, while SGS Filton College’s Tom Jones will also not be up against any teammates as Bristol Bears have no players in the England squad.
Unsurprisingly both Merchiston Castle and George Watson’s College have healthy representation in the squad, Dan Gamble, Jamie Dobie, and Matthew Currie representing Merchiston with Harri Morris, Cameron Scott, and Alex Harley representing George Watson’s.
Speaking to www.scottishrugby.org ahead of the game, Miller said:
“I think this fixture will be a new challenge for this young group of players. It will be the first time they will be playing a full international match, so there will be a lot of challenges and a lot of learnings (sic) involved.”
“Our experience last year shows that the international games give a really good starting point for the players – in terms of the level that is required to compete and also the development of their own game.”
“We know it will be a really challenging test but we are looking to progress from our performance last weekend against the club side. It will be a really good learning opportunity for the players.”
