This weekend sees a healthy schools rugby fixture list, assuming the weather stays warm enough to keep the pitches playable.

The action all starts of Friday evening with an exciting kick off under the lights between City of London Freemen’s and Wimbledon College.

There are then some massive games on Saturday, not least the first of the U18 knockout semi finals as King’s Worcester host Ampleforth College in the U18 Schools Bowl semi final.

It is a massive game for both, who have come through this Bowl competition in sweeping style since they were knocked out of the Vase, bar a tight one for King’s Worcester at Bablake. For the winner it will be a trip to Sixways Stadium, home of Worcester Warrios, where either Glyn or Mount Kelly will be their opponents.

Sticking with the theme of the knockout competitions, Warwick this year are aiming to make it 3 Schools Cup titles in a row and their form this season has been excellent, including a massive win against Hampton last week. This week they face another opponent with a strong reputation, RGS High Wycombe, and the Cup champions will be aiming to keep their momentum up ahead of March’s semi final.

Hampton, meanwhile, are looking to bounce back from that defeat to Warwick last week when they host Campion on Saturday. Campion lost to a last second try against Brighton College last week, and Brighton are this week hosting Judd in what could be a similar game.

Scotland looks busy this week, Dollar Academy host St Aloysius’ College, while the Edinburgh-Glasgow rivalry resumes as Edinburgh Academy host Glasgow Academy. Hutchesons’ Grammar welcome Carrick Academy, while Kelvinside Academy host St Columbas as Dundee High School head to St Leonard’s.

Stewart’s Melville v George Heriot’s is one of the very biggest games of the weekend, while Morrison’s Academy host Lomond.

Back in England a strong Hymers College side host Silcoates, with Repton making the trip to Abraham Darby. Bishop Vesey’s Grammar, meanwhile, travel to KES Camp Hill and Bablake are in action at KES Birmingham.

There are some huge game in the North West, not least at King’s Macclesfield. They host Wirral Grammar, while Wirral’s local rivals, Calday Grange Grammar, make the tricky trip to Manchester Grammar. Lancaster RGS are also in action, hosting Austin Friars, who are looking to bounce back from Wednesday’s defeat at Kingston Park to Newcastle School for Boys.

Elsewhere John Fisher are in action at Tiffin, with Latymer Upper heading to the American School, St George’s Harpenden host Brentwood for what should be another good game in the South East.

Skinners’, fresh from victory over St Joseph’s, will host Chislehurst & Sidcup Grammar, and up in the Midlands King Henry VIII Coventry welcome Lawrence Sheriff.

Sunday sees some excellent 7s action too as sixteen teams gather at Seaford College for one of the first major 7s tournaments of the season. You can see out preview and the draw here: Seaford 7s Preview.
