The resumption of the school season post-Christmas continues to slowly pick up pace with a few midweek fixtures this week.
The action will then really gather momentum with a much fuller fixture list on Saturday, but there are a handful of games before then to ease us in.
On Tuesday Lord Wandsworth College, the former home of Jonny Wilkinson and Ugo Monye, take on Peter Symonds’, who claim Mike Brown and Joe Marchant among their alumni, in their County Cup semi final, a game that promises to be closely contested.
There are three exciting looking fixtures on the cards on Wednesday, chief among them Millfield hosting Sir Thomas Rich’s. Both sides probably lost more games than they would have like last term and will be keen to kick off 2018 in a positive manner, not least because both have further tough games on Saturday that they will want to be in hot form for, Millfield facing Brighton College and Sir Thomas Rich’s taking on Solihull.
Moving North, Durham welcome the U18 Schools Vase semi finalists, Ripon Grammar School. Ripon have certainly had the more positive results this season, though Durham’s fixture list has perhaps been trickier. It ought to be a fantastic game of rugby, and for Ripon a fantastic chance to get some good hard rugby under their belts ahead of that semi final.
Elsewhere, Wilson’s, who had a tricky finish to last term, host Carshalton for what should be another well contested game of rugby.
There is just one game on Friday, kicking off under the lights, as Cardinal Vaughan take on St Cecilia’s for what should be a superb occasion – as almost all Friday night games have proved to be this year.
