This weekend the South Coast 7s at Portsmouth Grammar School kicks off, drawing some of the top teams in the country.
Following last week’s Seaford 7s, the South Coast 7s will be one of the key tournaments this weekend, and looks as though it will be a huge early form indicator for the Rosslyn Park tournament, with a number of heavyweights included in the draw.
With sixteen teams competing across four groups of four, the top two from each group head to the Cup quarter finals, the losers of those quarter finals will play the Plate semi finals, while 3rd and 4th in the groups will play the Shield quarter finals, with the losers of those games heding to the Bowl semi finals.
The hosts, Portsmouth Grammar School, are drawn in Group A alongside Peter Symonds’ College, Whitchurch High School, and last year’s losing finalists, Brighton College.
It was Millfield that beat Brighton to the title last year, winning a thrilling final 22-21. They are drawn in a tricky looking Group B, with Denstone College, Epsom College, and Wimbledon College for company.
Group C looks tough as well, with Champions Trophy winners Dulwich College joined by Christ’s Hospital and RGS Guildford, as well as one of the form sides in the country during the fifteen-a-side season, Canford.
Group D is headlined by the 2016 winners, Wellington College, and they will be joined by the side that they beat in the final that year, Sherborne. Also in the group are KCS Wimbledon and Lord Wandsworth College, completing another tricky Pool.
