Round 3 of the AASE League takes place on Wednesday, somehow two rounds have already gone by!

It has been an exciting start, Bishop Burton College, Gosforth Academy, Beechen Cliff, and Exeter College all have two wins from their two games, meanwhile Oaklands College and Hartpury College have one win each from one having both already had their bye rounds.

This week Brooksby Melton College in the Northern Conference, who have beaten Moulton College and lost to Bishop Burton, have a bye, as do St Paul’s Catholic College, who beat Henley College in their opener before Hartpury College put a stunning seventy points past them in last week’s game, Hartpury’s first of the season.

Northern Conference

This week Moulton College look to get a win under their belts after that injury ravaged defeat in their opener against Brooksby Melton last week. They travel to Myerscough College who have two narrow defeats to their name, against Gosforth Academy and Bishop Burton. It ought to be a great encounter and a close game, how quickly Moulton’s men have recovered could be important.

High flying Gosforth Academy, who have reached two finals in a row, travel to Oaklands College in a clash of two unbeaten teams, albeit Gosforth have played two to Oaklands’ one. Again though, this ought to be another close game and one to keep a real eye on.

The final game sees the league’s newest side, Stourport High School, welcome another of the league’s newer sides, Bishop Burton. Stourport are searching for their first win, but improved significantly from week one to week two so will hope to challenge the side who have had an impressive start, winning two from two.

Southern Conference

In the south the big game of the week is the clash between the 2016 and 2017 champions, the only two sides ever to have won the AASE League. Exeter College, champions in 2016, host Hartpury College, the perennial champions. Exeter have had a great start beating Truro and Henley by narrow margins, but Hartpury look as though they are flying. They may just have won one game, but it was a stunning 76-24 effort over St Paul’s, who themselves had beaten Henley in a close game like Exeter. This could be fascinating.

Henley College, meanwhile, travel to Beechen Cliff in search of their first win. Beechen Cliff will be formidable opponents though, they have two wins from two and look like one of the top sides in the conference at present.

The final game sees SGS Filton College, whose only game so far was that tough defeat to Beechen Cliff, welcome Truro College. Truro have lost both of their games to date but have been in touching distance in both and will surely be desperate from the win here.
